Makeup Artistry isn’t glamorous so it takes passion and motivation to excel in the art of beauty makeup. My goal is to shape that passion into a confident, phenomenal makeup artist.
The program was created to teach students with backgrounds ranging from beginner to intermediate. The program is tailored for the individual needs of each student. Here’s how it works. Prior to enrollment, I request pictures of makeup that each student has done on other people. This is done for a couple of reasons: It gives me an idea of your starting point and I get an understanding of your opportunities for improvement so that I can tailor my teaching to those areas of need.
I like to compare my curriculum to that of peeling an onion. I teach makeup artistry one layer at time so that students thoroughly understand the concepts of makeup artistry and progressively build new skills. For example, the first week of class consists of the basics: makeup kits, sanitation, foundation, contour, eye brows and much more. Each subsequent week builds upon the previous. When you graduate from the program, you will be more confident and better skilled in the area of beauty makeup artistry.
Instructor Experience
As with any type of education an instructor should be well versed and experienced in the subject they teach. This makes perfect sense, since they will guide you through the basics and into more advanced education. Additionally, from a practical standpoint, your instructor should be an experienced professional with an established career and reputation in the beauty industry.
As the owner of JTorry Makeup Academy, not only do I have industry certifications, but I am an experienced professional. I’m a licensed cosmetologist and a Texas State Board licensed instructor. Additionally, I have over 10 years of experience as a working professional makeup and hair artist.

It’s so difficult to strike the right work-life balance. If you are like me, sometimes you don’t know if you’re coming or going. We’re so busy that it can be hard to fit school into an already hectic schedule. You need to find a school with a class schedule that will fit well into your hectic life.
JTorry Makeup Academy offers multiple course schedules to accommodate your full life. I offer three programs: 8-Day, 8-Night and 4-Day Program
The 8-Day Program is perfect for those who work or have family obligations in the evenings. This program consists of 4-hour days (weekdays only) from 10 am to 2 pm over the course of three weeks. For those who work during the day, I offer evening classes. Like the 8-Day Program, the 8-Night Program takes place over the course of three weeks with classes from 5 pm to 9 pm. I also offer the full 32-hour course in an intensive 4-Day Program with instruction from 8 am to 10 pm.
Student Experience
How do you learn best? Would you benefit from large classrooms with lots of other students? Or would you be best served in a smaller classroom with fewer students? I prefer the latter. I’m a firm believer that in order for students to get the best education that will provide the foundation on which to build their makeup artistry career, they need the highest level of attention and instruction. To ensure our students receive the best education and hands-on experience, we limit our class sizes for every program.
