Top 10 Hair Care Tips to Promote Hair Growth

Our hair is said to be our crowning glory, but… what happens if it’s slowly falling off or we’re gradually losing some strands?

Don’t panic— there’s hope. With the right approach, patience, and time, those strands should grow back. And you’ll feel like yourself again unless you have a hair or scalp problem.

With thick, long hair, there’s just about a lot of styles we can do with it. So we really must take the best care of our luscious strands. Yes, thank goodness that we have clip-in hair extensions for the special occasion. When it comes to our own natural hair, some have the good genes but for the rest of us, we have to work very hard to get or maintain a full healthy head of hair. Working hard to maintain a full hair is important, but it can be hard..

The good thing is there are many ways to help with hair growth. Along with applying hair growth products, we also need to encourage ourselves to have the strength to prevent hair fall. Having a positive mindset is just as important too.

Below are just some tips and products I find to be very effective in helping with growing hair back and help with breakage.

Massage the scalp with a scalp massager. Massaging our scalps is one of the most important and effective ways of promoting hair growth. Use both of your hands and fingers and press on your scalp. Gently but firmly massaging in a small circular motion can do wonders to your follicles. It helps bring blood to flow back to your hair follicles, stimulating, and waking up the follicles to get moving. Another tick to get blood flow rushing to your follicles is to brush and massage your hair while your head is downward. This helps bring blood flow back and stimulates the scalp to improve thickness.

Oil is important. It’s a must to add natural oils to the routine. There are many oils you can purchase in the market. There’s castor oil, almond oil, and the list goes on. But the oil you choose will have to fit your lifestyle, meaning the oil you pick will have to make sure it doesn’t interfere too much with your hairstyle. For example, castor oil is amazing, but it can be too thick for some and can weigh your hair down. Personally, I love using rosehip oil as it’s light and doesn’t weigh down my hair too much. I like to massage the oil into my scalp at least 3 to 4 times a week.

Use aloe vera. This plant is an old-time buddy for those with thinning hair. It’s amazing how this spiky plant can help soothe the scalp, condition the hair, reduce dandruff, and unblock hair follicles from excess oil. This plant is a must-have at home!

Use a hair shampoo that promotes hair growth. I have a few favorites, but one shampoo that I find that I go back to is the shea Moisture Jamaican Black Castor Oil Strengthen & Restore Shampoo. I find that when I use this, my hair doesn’t fall as much, and it helps to make it strong. Castor oil is known to help with hair growth, so having this in the shampoo definitely helps. Best of all, you can get this at any drugstore or grocery store.

Watch how you brush your wet hair. By nature, we tend to brush our hair from the roots to the ends. However, with wet or damp hair, we want to hold our hair and gradually brush from the ends first, then go down to the roots.

Do not sleep with wet or damp hair. Your hair is at its weak or vulnerable state when it’s wet or damp.. When wet hair is rubbing against the pillow as your toss and turn, the friction can cause your hair to break more easily than dry hair. Believe it or not, sleeping with wet hair can also cause hair loss due to the promotion of bacterial growth risk in your pillowcase. If you have to take a late shower and wash your hair, be sure to gently blow dry it in medium heat to low heat before going to sleep.

Sleep like a Sleeping Beauty: We are tempted to let our hair all out when sleeping. But the toss and turning against the pillow can cause much damage. Sleep with a loose braid or put your hair in a satin bonnet. And if you can’t stand having anything on your head or have your hair tied, then sleep on a satin pillowcase. Not all satin pillowcases are equal, so make sure you read the reviews so that the quality is really good.

Take flaxseed oil or fish oil. These two are proven and tested to be very helpful in hair growth. They contain omega 3 that helps prevent hair loss. Flaxseed oil nourishes hair follicles, while fish oil improves the hair from the inside. Altogether they make a good team in keeping our crowning glory growing healthy.

Opt for a protein-rich diet. Our hair follicles are mostly made of protein, so it is very important to have protein in our meals. When there is not enough protein in the food we eat, our hair slowly loses its strength; hence hair loss ensues.

Manage your stress at bay. We all know how stress contributes to a lot of negative effects on the body/ Stress attacks our body organs, and yes, hair is an important living. That includes our hair. Too much stress can cause the hair to go brittle, so if we can, let’s try to refocus and watch how we react to stressors can help with our stress level. Getting adequate rest, exercising, and just letting go of things you can’t control will help you much in avoiding stress.

I’m always on a hunt to look for ways that can help with hair growth. I have a few more tips that I can share, but I’m sticking to 10 here. I’ll be sure to share some more. If you have any hair tips that you have tried, please be sure to share them below in the comments. I would love to hear them.
